Your body matters!

bigstock-close-up-of-back-of-woman-in-b-18885521As a woman of God, we crave to be different. We are beginning to understand there is more to life than deep cleavage, 4 inch heels and shrink wrapping our stomach.

Understanding is beginning to form in our brain that there is a higher call for our body than making a fashion statement!

Buying into the world’s unattainable standard of outward beauty is easy to do in today’s world.  As we try to gain acceptance by the world’s standard, we find the hurt and heartache of life covers us with pain and depression. As a woman of faith accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we are happy that we are on our way to heaven, but do we realize the depth of our redemption?

We soon find that we are living in a tug-of-war between the world’s unrealistic standard of beauty and God’s  reality for our body. As new life is generated in our body by renewing our minds with the Word of God we will not be sucked into the world’s warped whirlpool of values.  Romans 12:2 tells us “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be  a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how His ways will really satisfy you” (TLB).

When we receive a revelation of the purpose of our body, we will not abuse it.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 gives us a purpose for our body. “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”  You are to glorify God in your spirit and body. Your body is a vehicle to spread the message of salvation. We were created to share the love and acceptance of Jesus Christ.

We must be liberated from the suffocating corset that  is choking out the breath of life that is within us.

Yes, we must take care of our outer body.Your body does matter! Eating a healthy lifestyle brings a shine and glow to your body and keeps many diseases from being able to attack your body. This glow is something that the world knows nothing about.  The beauty world and diet industry is a multi-million dollar business as they center on the outward appearance, but we get fatter and fatter as a nation.  We keep angry and resentful about our weight issues as we help make the diet industry richer and richer.

As a child of God you can face life with confidence. You were made for more! You do not have to be in bondage from the opinions of others or  an out-of-control appetite. Your purpose in life is the same as Paul’s, “…that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection…” (Philippians 3:10).

We must continually seek the Lord for wisdom and revelation.  Revelation knowledge, the nugget of truth revealed to you by the Holy Spirit, is the language of the Spirit. Paul prayed for spiritual wisdom, “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power” (Ephesians 1:17-19).  Enlightened means “to shed light upon.” Paul is praying that light be shed upon our hearts so we can clearly see the hope and power available to us.  In this walk with God it is crucial that we understand that we have a hope and power beyond ourselves.

For years I struggle with weight issues. I know the pain of rejection, anger and resentment that rides on the coattail of being overweight.  I had tried the world’s way and always ended up in frustration and disappointment.  When I came to the end, I cried out to God for help. He opened the eyes of my understanding,  and when I centered my thoughts on His thoughts, my body responded and weight begin to drop off.  I have lost 65 pounds and the world still calls me a plus size.  My goal is not to become a size 2, but to be healthy and happy.

I have shared my journey in my new book, “Why Diets Don’t Work—Food is Not the Problem.” I pray that you will read this book and that you will find hope and the power within to overcome.  Your body does matter!
